Two teenage girls -- Bhavya Purohit and Harshee Adnani --from the city have brought laurels to Gujarat by winning gold and bronze medals at the 28th sub-junior Taekwondo championship recently organised at Guwahati by Taekwondo Federation of India (TFI). 

This is the first time that Gujarat has won gold medal in Taekwondo at a national level event after the sport was introduced in Gujarat 18 years ago. 

Bhavya, who won gold medal, was successful in beating contestants from Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh in all the rounds. She (Bhavya) has been nominated for the most reputed sports award Sardar Patel Award' for the year 2009-10. 

Likewise, Harshee won bronze medal by beating players from Chandigarh and Kerala. Now, she is eyeing to play in international events. 

"Our girls have created history and proved their calibre in fighting against the states that dominate in Teakwondo sports like Assam, Manipur, Maharashtra etc," Taekwondo coach Pamir Shah said.
