Girnar mountain climbing competition in Gujarat on 2nd Dec


At least 1,673 youth from across the state will take part in the 27th state-level Girnar mountain climbing competition 2011 (Akhil Gujarat Girnar Arohan Avrohan Spardha) to be held on January 2 in Junagadh, organised by Junagadh district administration and department of youth, sports and culture, government of Gujarat. Among the participants, 228 participants are girls. The competition has been divided into four categories - senior girls and senior boys, and junior girls and junior boys.

Ten awards will be given to the winners in each category. The administration, which in all will give away 40 awards, aims to make this a national sports event. The competition will be held at national level in February.

Minister of state Vasan Ahir, minister of state Kanu Bhalala, Junagadh district collector Banchanidh Pani, Junagadh municipal commissioner R M Sharma and mayor Shatish Virda will be among those present on the occasion.

Boys will have to climb up and down the 5,000 Girnar mountain steps and the girls 2,200 steps.
