Gujarat should become self-reliant in water resources by 2030

Renowned expert in water resource management, BN Navalawala, advisor to chief minister for water resources stressed on the need to make Gujarat self reliant in water resources by 2030.
He was speaking at the 38th Bhaikaka Memorial seminar series, organised by Charotar Vidya Mandal of Vallabh Vidya Nagar.
Navalawala, who has served as the secretary in the central cabinet and is a known figure in water management throughout the world, said, "Our primary concern is not scarcity, but management of available water resources."
Navalawala also stressed on the need to involve common man in preserving water resources. "Public participation should be included in areas of maintenance and collection of taxes for using the resources" opined Navalawala, who advocated the need to develop a three-tier system for managing water resources.
"Countries like Singapore, Israel and Saudi Arabia have less water resources than us, but they manage it quite well and we must learn from them" he added.
