IIM-A alumni to help Gujarat govt innovate

Former Indian Institute of Management-Ahmedabad (IIM-A) graduates will offer voluntary services, and help innovate and enhance various schemes ofNarendra Modi's Government.
IIM-A students are normally in news for the hefty pay packages that they get when they pass out from India's best B-School. But now, alumni of this prestigious management school will devote some of their time in providing voluntary services. The idea is to help government departments function more efficiently.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi said, "I've got youth from your institution who are working in the CM fellowship programme for as low amounts as 10 or 15 thousand rupees. They want to do something for the country."
As part of the IIM-A and Gujarat Government partnership, IIM-A and Gujarat government will jointly set up an incubation centre to promote innovation.
The alumni and government officials will also set up a committee that will oversee modalities of how IIM-A alumni can contribute towards state's development.
The IIM-A alumni will lend their expertise in the sectors of health, education, tourism, infrastructure, financial services and sports.
To begin with, the committee comprising alumni, government officials and IIM-A faculty, will identify alumni who are willing to work with the government in various fields. Dean of Alumni and External Relationships, Professor Atanu Ghosh is sure this initiative will work.
Professor Ghosh said, "When these alumni come together with their own experiences, what's relevant for Gujarat and when they put all these things together, I'm sure something concrete will come out."
Modi has always harped on a professional approach in governance. The IIM-A helping hand will only do the state more good.
