The battle of placements has begun in Nirma University. The season launched itself at a grudging pace but gained crucial momentum with large corporate houses showing interest in employing BTech students.
Tech giants such as Tata Technologies, L&T Group, Linde, Reliance, Hewlett Packard and Caterpillar were among others that had visited the campus at the beginning of the placement season on December 4.
Infosys had hired only 15 students from almost 14 different colleges last year from Gujarat. But this year the company has offered jobs to 197 BTech students of Nirma alone. No company has ever hired these many students from Gujarat before.
Apart from Infosys, Cognizant has offered jobs to 132 students and Accenture has employed 50 technology students from Nirma. Out of a total of 540 students studying BTech in 7th semester, almost 500 students were placed in the very first week which ended today.
Highest package offered to a BTech student was 8.43 lakhs p.a. by Future First while average salary being offered is around 4.2 lakhs per annum. Close to 94% students from BTech have already been placed.
The placement season is far from over as students are eying for dual offers in the second round. Salary offered may touch a new high in the second round when almost 30 companies will be visiting the campus next week
